X JÓZEF SZAJNA INTERNTIONAL FESTIVAL ZDARZENIA

3-6.09.2009 TCZEW

The 10th jubilee edition turns out to be special due to several reasons. The most important, is the fact that The International Festival of Theatre and Visual Arts ZDARZENIA Tczew-Europe was changed its name to Józef Szajna International Festival ZDARZENIA. We owe it to the SPIRIT OF PROFESSOR and kindness of His inheritors. The famous name of his avant-garde artist emphasizes the course of action chosen at the beginning by the organizers, which makes the Festival a space for presentation of new, interesting esthetic solutions in the field of interdisciplinary theatre, visual arts and music. Moreover, ZDARZENIA become a place in which a significant number of spectators get to know the achievements of Szajna. We wish to extended Festival’s formula by the annual celebration of His art. Therefore, the first day of this year’s festival was open by Death is Within Me by Theatre Korzenie from Canada with special dedication to Professor. Equally important was also other events related to Szajna’s great art such as: the exhibition Theatre of Józef Szajna, happening The Leading Role, projection of film The human being comes negligent by Henryk Jantos and the night’s talks with the artists who cooperated or were inspired by Professor.

During those ten years ZDARZENIA took a pride in hosting artist who confirm the development of contemporary art. Some of them returned to us, to present their mature projects. And so from 3 to 6 September 2009 you will had a chance to saw works of such foreign prizewinners as: Nicola Boccini and Nicola Pianzola /Italy/, Adela Lastovkova Stodolova /Czech Republic/ and Polish groups: Theatrical Studio THE CIRCLE, Suka Off, Theatre la M.ort, Theatre Zakład Krawiecki and music performance of Rh+ a joint of audiovisual performers.

Another important part of this edition happens was, traditionally, the contest. To our big surprise so many projects were submitted this year- from 70 applications, the jury had a hard task to choose 16- 8 theatre productions and 8 installations in the urban space. We were delighted with the fact that most of those artistic propositions originally combine theatre, music and plastic art in the interdisciplinary works.

To show our high regard towards the great audience of Tczew, we invited one of the most significant Polish street theatre- referring to the medieval fair, traveling and conjuring theatre- Theatre WHO from Krakow, which will present an open air production Quixotage! On the last day of the festival. Performance’s title seems to be adequate, as it symbolically refers to our ten-year  tilt at windmills of administration.
