THE 9^th INTERNALTIONAL FESTIVAL OF THEATRE AND VISUAL ARTS ZDARZENIA TCZEW-EUROPE

The 9^th edition has been marked with the death of its honorable patron, great and uncompromising artist, Joseph Szajna.

Giving his artistic patronage to ZDARZENIA, Szajna not only signed his famous name under the festival but he deeply believed that it was possible and necessary to organize valuable, non-commercial artistic events on the province. Far from the hectic cit life absorbed in greed for profits.

Moreover, the festival’s formula-linking theatre with the plastic arts, was very dear to his heart, therefore he watched presented here debut “creatures” o imagination carefully. He used to meet with the young artists eagerly as he believed in the necessity of the intergenerational dialogue based on the exchange of knowledge and experience as well as on the mutual inspiration. He used to say very often that is not achieving the goals that makes falling.

Together with ZDARZENIA Joseph Szajna celebrated 55^th anniversary of his artistic work and his 80^th birthday, presenting his artistic achievements, including the last performance Deballage II. Giving the artist a title of An Honorable Citizen of Tczew was a punch line of that event. It was then that he said the famous phrase: The festival ought to bring new artistic phenomenon and grow. This Tczew’s one must be loved and preserved.

If it was not for his care and presence ZDARZENIA would not exist in such form today. Therefore we wish to pay off our artistic debt doing our best for the festival to have the honorable name of Joseph Szajna, starting with the next year’s jubilee 10^th edition.
